What are exosomes, and how are they being used in aesthetics?

on

If you hadn’t heard of exosomes until just now, you’re not alone. While scientists have known about exosomes - a type of lipid vesicle - for decades, only 500-some research papers referring to exosomes had been written by the mid 2000’s.

Exosomes, for a while, were most broadly regarded as sacks of waste being transported outside of cells. But in 2007, Jan Lötvall et. al published a paper in which the authors remark that “exosomes contain both mRNA and microRNA, which can be delivered to another cell, and can be functional in this new location.” This finding paved the way for further research into exosomes and their potentially groundbreaking applications across many fields of medicine.

Today, we know that exosomes are far more than mere sacks of cellular waste. Further, they don’t just carry the mRNA and microRNA that Jan Lötvall et. al observed in their 2007 paper; these extracellular vesicles carry nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, and metabolites that are integral to many of the body’s functions. Perhaps most importantly to our customers working in the field of aesthetics, exosomes are key players in the body’s wound healing processes.

Recent advances in aesthetic technology allow practitioners to target more patient requests than ever before: RF microneedling and laser resurfacing have been particularly notable for their ability to target laxity, wrinkles, scarring, pigmentation, and acne - but even some of the most advanced devices on the market will require downtime from patients.

Seeing the opportunity to integrate the healing properties of exosomes into aesthetic treatment protocols, Aesthetic Management Partners recently launched its EXO|E Revitalizing Complex Line: three patent-pending formulations of plant stem cell secretory factors that include not only exosomes, but also liposomes, proteins, peptides, and anti-inflammatory factors. Together, these naturally-occurring stem cell factors can be used by aesthetic practitioners to enhance treatment results and accelerate outcomes.

D|TOX, the first step in the treatment line, prepares the body’s ideal environment for the cell signaling processes it uses to fight inflammation and restore equilibrium. EXO|E is the second step in the line, and consists of a concentrated loading dose of stem cell factors. Finally, RE|PAIR reinforces the work of EXO|E with ten additional applications of exosomes, liposomes, and the full complement of stem cell factors found in nature’s healing processes.

The numbers are striking: Aesthetic Management Partners’ EXO|E system provides:

  • Up to a 3x faster recovery
  • 10x stimulation of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid (the components of skin responsible for skin’s firmness, elasticity and moisture retention)
  • 15 billion exosomes and thousands of active stem cell secretory factors per application
  • 20x the amount of cell signaling versus other competitive exosome products

For aesthetic professionals, the applications for the EXO|E line are practically endless: the system pairs perfectly with treatments such as microneedling, RF microneedling, and skin resurfacing procedures, and can even be incorporated into patients’ home skincare routines to stimulate dramatic anti-aging.

MedShift is excited to partner with Aesthetic Management Professionals to offer this treatment line to our customers. Click here to shop for EXO|E.
